Glow ball tournament

Cyprian Keyes GC teaching pro Jim Fenner plans to donate a starter set of clubs to a boy and a girl Wednesday at the Danny Rossetti Junior Golf Camp at Green Hill Municipal Golf Course.

Fenner used to work at Green Hill, and he volunteers his time each year at the free three-day camp, which is open to Worcester boys and girls ages 8-13. Registration is limited to 125 youths and is full as usual.

Fenner received state approval to form the Fenner Junior Golf Foundation with proceeds from the glow ball tournaments he holds each year at Cyprian Keyes. He’s using funds from that foundation to pay for the clubs he’ll donate to youths who can’t afford to purchase them.

Fenner said youths at the Rossetti camp are in more need of clubs than those at Cyprian and pointed out that one youth he instructed at the camp last year used her grandmother’s clubs. Cyprian will donate two free rounds on its par-3 golf course to the boy and girl who receive the clubs, Fenner said.

“We’re hoping to raise more money this year,” Fenner said, “and hopefully we can give four kids clubs next year. It’s a beginning.”

In past years, Fenner donated socks to the Friendly House and can goods to the Worcester Food Bank with proceeds from his glow ball tournaments. This year’s glow ball tournament will be held Friday, Sept. 13, at Cyprian. To register, call Fenner at (774) 242-6910 or visit fennerjrgolffoundation@gmail.com.
